Q: Can couples’ therapy work if my partner refuses to come?

A: That would not be couples’ therapy, would it?  No worries, you can still achieve significant changes in your relationship if you show up by yourself.  As you change, the imbalances and unhealthy interactions in your relationship will be forced to change.

Q: Do you accept my insurance?

A: I accept most insurances, including Optum, Pacificare, Aetna, Cigna, Tricare, and BlueShield, just to name a few.  Please call your insurance to make sure. However, I accept only a limited number of people with insurance for couples’ therapy each month.

Q: What is my copayment?

I don’t know! Please call your insurance and ask.  I do not have access to that information. Please bring your copayment in cash or check: I do not take credit or debit cards. Also make sure you do not have a deductible.  If you do, you will need to pay for the sessions until your deductible is met.

Q: What kind of therapy do you do?

A: The kind that gives results. You come in with a great deal of stress and turmoil, and I know that. My priority is to get you out of that as fast as I can. I am a cognitive-behavioral strategic therapist.  That’s a fancy term to say that I will use whatever therapeutic method works for you, and I will strategize a treatment course to get you unstuck.  I follow methods that have been proven by research to work. Some people love my direct style, others prefer me to just listen.  If you are of the second kind, please click away from this site, and maybe look for a psychodynamic therapist (by the way, I was trained in psychodynamics, and my clinical experience tells me it is not as effective).

Q: How many sessions will I need?

A: I don’t know! I don’t know your situation yet.  People typically stay in therapy from 3 to 12 months or so.  I try to get you to solve your situation as quickly as I can, but I will need your help for that.  The faster I can convince you to cooperate, the faster you will see results and not need therapy.

Q: What’s with all these pictures of people jumping?

A: Life is not static. Whether we want it or not, life is in constant change.  Let’s change for the better.  There is a lot of joy in being alive. My therapy is not just about listening.  It is about taking action. You’ll be jumping from joy too if you can improve your situation.
